The Friends of the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, in conjunction with the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, kicked off the Kids Fishing Derby on June 13th, 2015 at the Quarry Park just at the base of the Norfork Dam on the North Fork River. About 200 kids, plus their parents, showed up for a fun filled morning of catching Rainbow and Brown Trout. Kids ranging from 2 – 15 years of age, were placed into three age groups (2-5/6-10/11-15) and each age group received trophies for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd place positions. Volunteer Fish Marshalls were  present to record each trout caught and assist the kids in their safety and fishing  techniques. Registration started at 8:00 A.M., fishing started at 9:00 A.M.,  with trophy ceremonies held about 11:30 A.M. Every child received a prize for their efforts. Upon completion, all kids and their parents enjoyed a feast of hotdogs, chips, cool aid, bottled water, and picture taking.

 

The Friends of the Norfork National Fish Hatchery would like to thank each and every volunteer who contributed their time to make this event a success that it was. The Friends group would also like to thank all the people and companies that donated their products and financial support to insure each child left with a smile on their face and a memory that will last a life time. So many children wanted to know if this event was going to happen “next year”? With the continued financial support of so many, this event can be programed for the year 2016.
