2014 Kids Fishing Derby Followup and Video
On June 7th, 2014, the Friends of the North Fork National Fish Hatchery has once again successfully completed the 2014 Kids Fishing Derby. This event was held at the Quarry Park, just below the Norfork Dam, on the North Fork River. About 206 kids ranging from 2 years of age to 15 years old came and fished for trout in the North Fork River. The Norfork National Fish Hatchery personnel loaded the river with huge Rainbow Trout just so the kids can reel in that whopper. The three age groups were from 2-5 and 6-12 and 13-15 years old. Each age group received First, Second, and Third Place trophy's for their largest measured catch of the day. The FRIENDS Group had many volunteer Fish Marshalls to help the kids with their catch and record them on each child’s pla-card. All other children, whom did not receive a trophy, did receive a wonderful gift that was supplied by donations from the general public and local businesses. This event could not have been possible without the continued support from all of our sponsors/donators. After the event, all participating kids and their parents enjoyed a cook-out of hot dogs, soft drinks, potato chips, and all the garnishes. Please remember, children under the age of 15 do not need a fishing license nor a trout permit. See the Video on our Youtube Channel here |
