Hatchery Outdoor Adventure

The Hatchery Outdoor Adventure is an annual event held on the first Saturday after Labor Day at the Norfork National Fish Hatchery. This free, family-friendly event is open to all ages and focuses on fun and educational outdoor activities. Various organizations, civic groups, businesses, and dedicated individuals come together to provide hands-on experiences for children and their parents or guardians, promoting learning and exploration in the great outdoors. The event highlights the hatchery and fishery while fostering an appreciation for our ecosystem and encouraging good environmental stewardship.

Past activities have included archery, fly-tying, fly rod casting, fishing, knot tying, Japanese fish printing (Gyotaku), land navigation, insect investigations, Arkansas bat education, making Chia pets, kiddie fishing in the raceways, exploring freshwater macro-invertebrates, and understanding the importance of wetlands. Each year, new activities are added to keep the adventure fresh and engaging.

The success of the Hatchery Outdoor Adventure depends on the generous support and expertise of volunteers. If you’d like to contribute to this meaningful and exciting educational event, please reach out to Joe or Lerene Salisbury to get involved. Your participation is invaluable in creating lasting memories and inspiring young minds!
