Fishing Academy

Dry Run Creek Academy

The Dry Run Creek Academy provides three levels of instruction - Brook, Rainbow and Brown. At the fourth level, Cutthroat, students must show they've caught the four species of trout. The Dry Run Creek Academy is free, and no equipment or supplies are needed. We anticipate each level will be 3 to 4 hours, including fishing on Dry Run Creek. Instruction will be at Norfork National Fish Hatchery visitor center with fishing on Dry Run Creek.

Dry Run Creek is one of the top trout fishing streams in America with easy access for the mobility impaired adults and youth under the age of 16.

Dry Run Creek is located next to the Norfork National Fish Hatchery and receives over a million gallons per hour of cold, highly oxygenated water which provides excellent habitat for  rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout. The specially designed walkways, ramps and fishing platforms make it easy to fish while the upper end of the creek remains natural for more technical stream fishing. The stream is narrow and shallow so wading, although not restricted, is not necessary and may be counter productive.

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission fishing regulations restrict fishing at Dry Run Creek as follows:

  • Youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Mobility impaired adults must have the mobility impaired permit described below along with a valid Arkansas fishing  license and trout stamp
  • Trout must be released immediately
  • Only barbless hooks with one hook point may be used
  • Artificial unscented lures only; ie. no power bait, worms, night crawlers, etc.
  • See AGFC Dry Run Creek regulations for more information.

Required Permits FOR ADULTS to fish at Dry Run Creek:

  • An AGFC mobility impaired permit along with a valid Arkansas fishing license and trout stamp are required for adults to fish Dry Run Creek.
